Alternative Google Form Front End
Opportunity:
I'm constantly seeing new 'form builders' pop up. I don't think there's anything wrong with Google Forms in terms of building forms—people are used to it, and everyone has a Google account. I wouldn't want to invest in a new product that could go away if I were trying to gather information long term, but I do want to replace Google Form's ugly, non-customizable view.
Customers:
- Indie Hackers/Small sites
- Simple WordPress/Wix/Squarespace/Shopify sites/customers
- Web Dev Freelancers
Problem:
- Google Forms provides very little customization
- All Google Forms look the same. I can't make forms 'mine'
- If I want to collect emails, I can't make an input an 'email' input (which would automatically show '@' on a mobile keyboard and provide email format verification)
- I can't change the value of input placeholders. They all just say 'Your answer'
- I can't change the value of a submit button, they all say 'Submit'. I might want to say something friendlier like 'Get in Touch' or 'Subscribe Now!'
- I might already have form responses in Google Sheets and want to keep that data there, along with any other automations I might have around that
Solution:
- Keep Google Forms as 'source of truth'. Any updates to form structure (update/add questions) would be done in Google Forms.
- Provide a completely from-scratch front end where the user can customize questions' inputs placeholders, colors, themes (bootstrap, ant, typeform, etc)
- Provide an embed code that could be placed anywhere HTML can be placed
- Form responses are continued to be placed directly in your Google Sheets, just as they were before
Existing Alternatives:
There are many existing 'form builders' out there. But we don't want to recreate the form *building* aspect of forms. Just the front end of the form. Google currently provides minimal form customization. But like AirTable to their Google Sheets, Google has gotten lazy and hasn't expanded upon their existing forms market-leader products in ages.
